Posting great content at the wrong time means it gets buried before your audience is even online. Here's what the data says about optimal posting times — and how to find the best time specifically for your audience.
💡 These times are based on your audience's timezone — not yours. If most of your followers are in the US and you're posting from South Africa or the UK, adjust accordingly.
Generic benchmarks are a starting point — but the best time for your account depends on your specific audience. Here's how to find it:
Less so than for feed posts. Reels are distributed via the Explore and Reels tab to non-followers as well as followers, so they have a longer distribution window. That said, posting Reels during peak hours still gives them a stronger initial engagement spike, which signals to Instagram to push them further.
Posting at a slightly suboptimal time consistently will always outperform posting at the perfect time inconsistently. Instagram's algorithm rewards accounts that maintain a regular posting cadence. Aim for at least 4 feed posts per week and daily Stories.
Timing is only one factor in reach. If a significant portion of your followers are inactive or ghost accounts, your posts will underperform regardless of when you post them. Combine optimal posting times with a regular follower audit to get the best results.
Use IG Audit to identify and remove non-followers, deactivated accounts, and dead weight from your following list — then pair that with smart posting times for maximum reach.
